About Andrea

Hello...

I am Andrea D'Avignon Brown of Austin, Texas where I have been working as a freelance artist for the past few years.  Also having worked various odd jobs, I have decided to concentrate more on my art and grow it into a business.

  • Biography

I was born in 1977 in Muskegon, Michigan, but moved with my family to The Woodlands, Texas in 1981.  I had a wonderful childhood growing up in Texas, and in 1996 I graduated from McCullough High School.  I attended Sam Houston State University for 2 years, then moved to Dallas in 1998 where I lived for almost 5 years before finally settling here in Austin in December 2002.

From as early as kindergarten, I remember my love for art, and would create drawings and paintings any opportunity that came along.  In middle school, I received a scholarship and studied art at The Glassell School of Art in Houston.  I began my formal pursuit of art when I entered the College of Fine Arts at The University of North Texas in 1998.  There I studied painting, drawing and art history.  Not knowing how I was going to make a career out of painting and drawing, I took some time off from school and got a job waiting tables.  There I was able to use my talent by designing some promotional marketing for the company.

Finally, in 2002, I made the decision to finish school and start fresh in a new city. I packed up and moved to Austin and enrolled myself in the School of Art and Communication at Texas State University.  At Texas State, I continued my studies in painting, drawing and art history, and completed my senior thesis in drawing in May 2004.  I was a featured artist in the Senior Group Exhibition, Bring It On, where one of my pieces was selected to promote the show's opening and was displayed on the university's website homepage.

Since graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Studio Art, I have continued drawing and painting on my own and have also done some commissioned work.  I have also designed and created promotional marketing as well as in-house visuals for Chili's Grill & Bar and Chuy's Hula Hut in Austin.  I was a featured artist in an art and fashion show in Austin, Le Chic Groove, in August 2005 where I was able to gain some exposure.

With the success I have had during the past few years doing commissioned work, I finally realized there is no reason why I can't make a career out of my passion.  So now, in 2008, my website is born and I am looking forward to providing people with a product that is more than just "a picture on the wall".

Work

Due to the combination of my  interest in the human form and the figurative works of Phillip Pearlstein, Edgar Degas and Henri Matisse, in addition to my fascination with organic, undulating shapes and lines like those of Georgia O'Keeffe and Gustav Klimt, my work is a compilation of lively shapes and dancing lines rich in color.

My work focuses on live subjects, and includes  figurative paintings using mostly acrylics and pastels.   Although it was not my plan from the beginning, most currently my work has evolved into animal portraits due to requests from customers. Being an animal lover myself, I have discovered I enjoy painting animals as much as people.  Look for my next series of paintings to focus on animals, while  continuing  to use the same style as in my figurative pieces.

 With my baby, Bridgett
